Day Trip to Lake Ziway – Gelila Island📍 and Castel Winery🍇 – Lake Ziway is the biggest of the lakes in the northern Rift Valley. It’s really huge, covering an area bigger than 440 square kilometers! If you look closely, you’ll see a bunch of islands of different sizes scattered across the lake. The most famous one is Tulu Gudo, and it’s the biggest island of them all. Legend has it that it once hid the famous Ark of the Covenant!

And oh, there’s a tall mountain in the distance, watching over the lake. The water sparkles and reflects the bright blue sky. Beneath those gentle ripples, there are five islands made by ancient volcanoes. They hold secret paths, old forests, and ancient monasteries just waiting to be explored.

Now, let’s talk about the Castel Winery. It’s in the town of Ziway/Batu. This place sits about 1600 meters above the sea, and it has a climate that’s a bit between humid and dry. The soil here is of the Sandy Loam type, and it gets around 650 to 700 millimeters of rain every year. The temperature stays around 25 degrees Celsius throughout the year, which makes it perfect for growing grapes from France! Cool, right?
